The 23-year-old Macháč, who won gold alongside Kateřina Siniaková in the mixed doubles on Friday, did not add the second valuable metal under the five rings in Paris. With Pavlásk, who is six years older, they also lost the second duel against the American pair. They were not enough for Austin Krajicek and Rajeev Ram in the semi-finals.

Macháč and Pavlásek did not take advantage of the chance to become the first Czech men’s Olympic medalists in doubles. Until now, Miloslav Mečíř and Milan Šrejber, who won bronze for Czechoslovakia in Seoul, have only succeeded under five circles in 1988.
Davis Cup representatives Macháč and Pavlásek had a hard time finding a recipe for the hard serves of their American opponents in the match. In the first set, they lost serve twice and lost early 1:5. Although they erased the deficit of one break in the seventh game, Fritz and Paul already brought the set to a winning end.
Unfortunately, it did not work out for the boys in the fight for bronze, Macháč and Pavlásek were short of the pair from the USA. Final 4️⃣. however, the bar is still a very good result! ❤️

At the beginning of the second set, the Americans got another break on Macháč’s serve and headed for victory. However, the Czechs dramatized the conclusion. At 3:5, they averted three match points and did the same in the tenth game, when Fritz served to erase the 0:40 deficit.
The Czech players subsequently worked out a break point, but the 12th singles player in the world, Fritz, deflected it thanks to a hard serve. During the next exchange, Macháč sent the ball into the car, the Americans won the seventh match point, and the native of Beroun played the return only into the net.
