Although the battle for the championship is still completely open, the first title of the season was decided tonight (Wednesday) at the stadium in Netanya, when Maccabi Tel Aviv beat Maccabi Haifa 2:4 in a penalty shootout after 0:0 in 90 minutes and won the Toto Cup.

The Toto Cup final was dedicated entirely to the soldiers of the Israel Defense Forces, as was the crowning ceremony of the winner. The ceremony was held in a format adapted to these difficult days, when the trophy was awarded to the captain of the winning team, Sharan Yeni, by the family members of the late Col. Assaf Hammi, who died on the seventh of October.

The yellows were slightly better throughout the 90 minutes. In the first half, Dan Biton with a kick from outside the box and Roy Rabivo with a kick from a corner kick managed to squeeze out great saves from Sharif Kif, and on the other side, Anan Halaili launched a tremendous kick from outside the box, which was blocked by Roy Mishpeti, and the teams went into half time tied.

In the second half there were fewer significant events. On the green side, Dean David squeezed a great save from Lippi and on the yellow side Eran Zahavi kicked into the outer net from the box. Those who made their debuts in green and yellow are Lior Kassa and Aden Kartsev.

In the 87th minute, Robbie Keen’s team was close to deciding the game when Usher Davide found Dor Peretz in the box, but Sharif Kioff made a great save for the midfielder’s kick. Two minutes later, Kartsev attempted a kick from outside the box, but his ball went out of bounds and referee Aviad Shiloh blew his whistle to end the 90 minutes and determined that the identity of the title winner would be decided in a penalty shootout.

In the penalty shootout, Eran Zahavi, Aden Kartsev and Osher Davida scored for Maccabi Tel Aviv and Chiron Sherry and Franzi Piero missed for Maccabi Haifa, which created a 0:3 advantage for the Yellows. Anan Halaili and Pierre Corneau scored, Dor Peretz missed and the advantage shrank to 3:2, but Derrick then came Derrick Lucassen who sent a bomb into the top net of Kiyof and brought the trophy to Tel Aviv.
