MacBook Pro Review: Apple Delivers What Consumers Want with the New Design

Apple has embraced the whole idea of what the Mac should be in a very different way over the past five years, and both with the Mac and many of their other product categories, it’s been defined by giving consumers what they want, without necessarily doing more bothersome than it needs to be.

The latest design of the MacBook Pro is certainly proof of this, as are the Pro Display XDR and HomePod Mini. Consumers have long demanded the ability to get a bigger screen without paying the many, many, many thousands of kroner it costs to get a MacBook Pro 16. “Okay,” said Apple – here’s a 15-inch version of the existing The MacBook Air design.

And that’s exactly what it is. It’s the same four colors, the same M2 chip (which we touched on earlier), the same core Liquid Retinal in 15.3 inches, which is 2880×1864 with a ppi of 224 (which is about the same as offered in the smaller than the 13-inch), and about the same battery life of approx. 18 hours of media playback.

Some might have hoped for a longer battery life than the smaller model. This makes sense since Apple and others usually have room for a larger battery in a larger cabinet, but here Apple has chosen to balance between a larger battery and more screen, and the battery life is so much better than what you see on the Windows page, which we are often willing to forgive.

You’ll find the same two Thunderbolt 3 ports, the same MagSafe charging with color-coordinated cable and the same option to go from 8GB to 24GB of RAM and from 256GB to 2TB.

You have to pay a good NOK 200 extra for the larger screen, but that comparison is a bit unfair as the standard 15-incher already has a 10-core GPU. Instead, you should compare the slightly more expensive 13-inch Air at NOK 1,150, which has a slightly larger SSD, with the 15-inch at NOK 1,400 – it is admittedly more expensive, but it is worth bearing in mind.

And the experience is, to say the least, fantastic. Having so much screen space in a case that’s 1.15 centimeters thick and only weighs 1.51 kilograms is incredible, and it’s easy to imagine that this could become a very popular laptop among students and those who like extra space without compromising.

We recommend that you take a look at our review of the 13-inch Pro version, as it includes a review of Apple’s M2 chip, but if you’ve been waiting for a way to get more space for the tasks you need to do with your laptop every day, there really aren’t any nasty surprises here. Apple has given people what they wanted, and they’ve done it well.
