André Cheong, the Acting Chief Executive, held a meeting with Erkin Tuniyaz, Chairman of the Government of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, in Macau to discuss a range of cooperation opportunities. The Government Information Bureau released a statement revealing that the agenda included topics such as trade, business, culture, tourism, and science and technology. Cheong highlighted that Macau is focusing on post-pandemic recovery and economic diversification with the Hengqin Cooperation Zone playing a vital role. Tuniyaz expressed his interest in intensifying collaborations in several areas including trade and commerce, education, culture, and tourism to promote mutual development. It was also emphasized that Xinjiang is a central area of the “One Belt, One Road” initiative. Macau’s unique advantages were highlighted as it becomes an increasingly crucial service platform for economic and trade cooperation between China and Portuguese-speaking countries.
