Liverpool are back in the lead, but the victory against Sheffield United was with some difficulty.
It started well for the home team at Anfield. After just over a quarter of an hour, the away team’s goalkeeper Ivo Grbic responded for a thunderous blunder. The keeper happened to send a long ball straight at an onrushing Darwin Nunez, whereupon the ricochet ended up in the Sheffield United net.
“I looked at Chris Wilder (manager) and he just took a deep breath, there’s not much you can do about it,” said former Leeds forward Lucy Ward on Sky and continued:
– Ivo Grbic has been good since he came to Sheffield United, but it is a bolt from the blue and an invitation.
Former Manchester United player Dion Dublin:
– I don’t know what Grbic is doing, he said in the BBC.
The score was 1-0 at the break.
Just over ten minutes into the second act, Sheffield United equalised. Gustavo Hamer stayed in front of a cross and via Conor Bradley slid the ball into the goal.
In search of an equalizing goal, Liverpool coach Jürgen Klopp opted to substitute Mohamed Salah and replace him with Harvey Elliott in the 60th minute.
– “Mo” Salah entered the technical zone and did half a handshake with the coach. He was not happy, former Manchester United forward Dion Dublin told the BBC.
With a quarter to go, the 2-1 goal came for Liverpool. From the edge of the penalty area, Alexis Mac Allister thundered a shot into the crossbar.
“What a hit,” wrote Sky Sports’ Peter Smith.
Liverpool managed to hold on and actually won 3-1, Cody Gakpo scoring the last goal in added time. The result means that the Merseyside team knocks Arsenal down to second place. Manchester City are third, three points ahead of Liverpool.
