Pediatric lung doctors from Maastricht UMC +, the Emma Children’s Hospital in Amsterdam and the Willem-Alexander Hospital in Leiden, among others, are going to research the long-term consequences of a corona infection for children.

In contrast to adults, according to the specialists, little is known about the effect that Covid-19 has on children.
Little data
Adults who have had the virus have long been known that they can suffer from fatigue, concentration problems and shortness of breath for a long time. However, little data is available for the consequences for children, according to the pediatric lung doctors. No research has yet been conducted on an international level either.
No security
Due to this lack of information, it is difficult to provide clarity, the two pediatric lung doctors at the Amsterdam UMC who are conducting the research notice when a parent asks what consequences corona will have for their child. “The prospects for the children are probably good, but that is not certain,” says physician and research leader Caroline Brackel.
Lung examination and permanent complaints
The children’s study builds on earlier research, in which medical data was collected from children who ended up in hospital with the corona. For the follow-up examination, children are asked to come for an examination six months to a year after their hospitalization. For example, the lung function is examined and a doctor checks whether there are lasting complaints.
