Maarten van der Weijden speaks in the Wilgenborg about ‘About life’

BLAUWESTAD – Eleven Cities swimmer, Olympic champion, world champion open water swimming and cancer survivor Maarten van der Weijden will speak in the Wilgenborg about ‘Over leven’.

On September 21, 2024, TrOost Groningen will organize the event ‘Over leven’ in the Wilgenborg in Blauwestad. How do you move on after a sad period in your life and how can you pick up the thread again? Through lectures and information stands we want to show how you can deal with major changes in your life.

Maarten van der Weijden will give a presentation at half past one about how he was able to achieve what he achieved with his boundless mental strength, both in his sport and in his life afterwards. Many know him as that big, bald swimmer with a special life story. The man who was lucky enough to recover from cancer and then won the Olympic Games.

At a quarter to three Brenda Venema will perform the one-act play ‘Kracht’, written especially for the event, a light-hearted story about loss, fear and the courage to find yourself again. All this with a touch of humor and joie de vivre.

Tanja Schrage will speak at half past three about ‘Loss in dementia and non-congenital brain injury’. She will share her experiences as a doctor in elderly care and her work at the Euthanasia Expertise Centre. She will also speak from the perspective of the people who experience it themselves, their environment and the healthcare professionals she works with.

For children from the age of two there is a performance by Mizzemos. Maaike van der Haar tells a musical story in which different emotions are addressed. All this is alternated with songs and musical activities.

With informative stands about nutrition, writing, coaching, yoga and more.
The whole is musically accompanied by Ylvalie, Berny Jansema and Kor Kuiper.

The event will take place from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the Wilgenborg, Elfenbank 11 in Blauwestad.
Admission is free.
