Maaike Cafmeyer opens up about her personal struggles in ‘My First Trip’ with Kobe Ilsen

In ‘My first trip’ Maaike Cafmeyer returns to the south of France with presenter Kobe Ilsen. She visits a remote farm where she spent a holiday as a child. During a walk, the West Flemish woman returns again to the Bart De Pauw case, in which she was one of the key figures. She was particularly displeased with the reactions afterwards. According to Kobe Ilsen, people called Maaike a drama queen. “That is the sweetest thing I have heard,” Maaike laughs faintly. “It’s a very scary feeling to see how deeply people come into your life with the intention of hurting you. “You went to a lot of trouble to get into my mailbox to humiliate me personally,” I think. People are also not fully informed before they gargle out their basic feelings.”

Only her inner circle knows how bad Cafmeyer felt. “I thought: ‘I’m going to quit,’” she says. “’What’s it all worth?’ I thought. But there’s no point in just wondering what people think of you. You have to look yourself in the mirror. Recognize that it is annoying and tell yourself that you have done enough. That it was not too much and not too little.” Since the whole thing, Maaike has not been the same anymore. “It has changed me, made me more careful, less likely to trust someone,” she admits. “I find it difficult to talk about, because I make myself vulnerable and I’m afraid of being caught.”

In ‘My first trip’ Kobe Ilsen goes out with BVs to visit a place abroad that has a lot of meaning to them. Margriet Hermans (Madrid), Sep Van Marcke (The Alps), Sammy Mahdi (Iraq), Wim De Vilder (Germany), Rani De Coninck (Las Vergas) and Emilie Vantekeniste (Crete) will follow later.
