MA Vignola scored her first goal of the season as Angel City FC defeated host Seattle Reign 1-0 on Friday night in a National Women’s Soccer League match, keeping their slim playoff hopes alive.

DiDi Haracic made a save and earned the shutout for Angel City (7-12-4, 22 points), which broke a four-game winless streak (0-3-1). The club was fined $200,000 by the league and docked three points in the standings on Thursday for violating salary cap terms.

The Reign (5-13-5, 20 points) suffered their fourth straight loss since a 3-2 win against Angel City on Sept. 6 in Los Angeles. Seattle has not scored during its streak.

Angel City scored the only goal in the 34th minute. Vignola dribbled down the left wing and played with Alyssa Thompson. Vignola recovered the ball near the top left corner of the six-yard box and fired his right foot into the net. Reign goalkeeper Claudia Dickey lightly touched the shot with her left foot, but not enough to deflect it wide.

The visitors threatened at the end of the first half. Katie Zelem headed the crossbar off a corner kick in the 44th minute. Seconds later, Angel City’s Megan Reid fell near the left edge of the penalty area after being hit by defender Shae Holmes. Referee Matthew Thompson reviewed the video refereeing but refused to call a penalty.

Haracic’s only save came on a 15-yard shot by Seattle’s Jordyn Huitema in the 54th minute.
