M5S, the debate before the Constituent Assembly has ended. Conte: “660 hours of confrontation, we are more alive than ever”

“After three weekends of intense work, the deliberative discussion phase of this constituent process ended on Saturday 26 October, for a total of 22 hours of discussion on the 12 priority themes chosen by all of you. Divided into working groups , over 300 women and men were able to discuss each other in a friendly and constructive atmosphere, they addressed the various and sometimes complex issues that were submitted to them with seriousness, making an effort to also recognize the reasons of others without focusing only on their own beliefs”. He writes it Giuseppe Contein a post on the 5 Star Movement website, taking stock of the closure of the deliberative debate in view of the constituent assembly of the M5S scheduled for 23 and 24 November.

The clash between the president and the guarantor is more heated than ever. Yesterday Conte decided to respond to Grillo who on Saturday claimed the right to the extinction of M5S. So from Cesena, on an electoral tour around Emilia Romagna and while the polls are open in Liguria, the former prime minister went on the attack: “A father has the right to give life, not to give death to children. There is no possibility of anyone arrogating to themselves the right, with arrogance, to bring about extinction.”

Now the 5S leader expresses enthusiasm for the work done in view of the Constituent Assembly at the end of November. “It was an experience that, for a political force, is unprecedented. Sincere thanks go to the randomly selected members and all the participants for their dedication and commitment, and for the free discussion developed in the name of maximum freedom and mutual respect. All this was also possible thanks to the confidentiality that almost all the participants chose to adopt, which protected the groups from the external pressures that would have come if they had publicly shared their commitment. Furthermore, the method of dividing into small groups made it possible for all participants to have sufficient space to argue their own ideas, comment on those of others, and look for meeting points: a space that they would not have had in assemblies with large numbers. If we were to line up the work of the 30 groups, lasting approximately 22 hours each, we would have a total of 660 hours of discussion, the equivalent of 82 consecutive days of work. An enormous commitment and of great value for the future of the Movement.”

And again: “The anonymous evaluations that we asked for at the end of each working weekend confirm how much the working method used was appreciated by the participants. An exercise in participatory democracy of great innovative inspiration, which distinguishes, once again, the Movement from all the other political forces in Italy and Europe. A bottom-up process, which saw only citizens, whether registered or not, as protagonists, in various phases which are worth remembering: the collection of needs, open to all; by all the members of the 12 priority themes; deliberative discussion with an innovative method, with participants chosen in a totally random way to finally arrive at the proposals to be put to the vote – continues the president – The next meeting is November 8th; when Urban Avventura, the independent company that is helping us in this process with its experts, publishes a report for each topic discussed in this phase of deliberative discussion. It doesn’t end here: there will be other spaces for debate in which all of you can intervene, and we will also demonstrate externally what is already very clear to us: our community is more alive than ever”, concludes Conte.
