Ukrainian intelligence reported that the first official data on the losses of the Russian army as a result of the strike on the night of April 17, 2024 against the airfield in the temporarily occupied Dzhankoi, which is located in Crimea, has already appeared.

It is known that the occupiers lost four launchers of the S-400 complex, three radar stations, a control point for air defense equipment and the “Fundament-M” airspace surveillance equipment. Edition Defense Express emphasized that in the case of the “Fundament-M”, this is probably the first mention in the entire period of full-scale war of this type of Russian equipment, and also spoke about this machine and why its elimination is important.

In general, there is very little information in the public domain about this sample of enemy equipment. For example, journalists managed to find only three photos showing “Fundament-M”.

“Fundament-M” is an automated control system for the air defense units of the Russian Army. The earliest publicly available mention of this control system dates back to 2011, and even then it was stated that this “analog unit” is capable of controlling the work of an entire anti-aircraft missile regiment, in particular during the repulse of a massive attack using cruise and ballistic missiles,” the publication says.

According to journalists, the “Fundament” system was presented for the first time during MAKS-2013, and the first mentions of deliveries to the army date back to 2015. At the time, the Russian mass media reported that these systems were provided to units located in the temporarily occupied Crimea and the Far East.

At the same time, in 2021, it was reported that 5 such vehicles were delivered to the air defense units of the Central Military District of the Russian Armed Forces.

“On the basis of which, we can make an assumption that the “Fundament-M” is a rare system for the Russian army, and due to a quantitative shortage, this automatic control system was supplied primarily to the “advanced” military districts. The Rashists themselves publicly stated only one characteristic of the “Fundament-M” – the ability to “couple” with all available types of radars and air defense systems in the Russian army. But judging by the fact of the loss during the attack on Dzhanka, “Fundament-M” turned out to be unable to cope with the main task – to provide the Russian occupiers with the repulsion of a missile attack.” in the material.

Hit on the airfield in Dzhankoya: what is known

As UNIAN wrote, on the night of April 17, explosions rang out in the occupied Dzhankoi. After that, a fire started in the area of the airfield.

Later, the guerrilla movement “ATESH” confirmed the destruction of the enemy’s S-400 complex in Dzhankoya.

“We confirm the success of a number of strikes that were carried out at night on the territory of the Dzhankoy airfield. The detonation at the point at the coordinates 45.7092211, 34.4270056 is confirmed. Earlier, at this location, our agents recorded the delivery of long boxes into equipped caponiers. The destruction of the latest S-400 complex with an explosion is confirmed launcher and serious damage to other machines of the complex. The occupiers believed in their newest anti-aircraft complex so much that they placed warehouses with missiles right next to the launcher,” the report said.

At the same time, military observer Denys Popovych spoke about the consequences of the attacks on Dzhanka. According to him, the Russians became “hysterical” after such an attack.

“There is such hysteria that it was painful to read about it… If we are talking about the S-400 complex, it has a range of 400 kilometers. In fact, they currently lack a system that could control all of Crimea and even [за його межами]. This is a serious loss, as they could have used it, in particular, to protect the so-called Crimean bridge,” the expert explained.
