When in April 2020 the redesigned m&k landed on the desks of readers from the media and communications industry, many would not have believed their eyes, writes the publishers association of Swiss media in a message. “When I saw it for the first time, I thought it wasn’t possible!” Urs Schneider, Chairman of the Board of Directors and founder of Mediaschneider, was quoted as saying. “I still knew the old issue, and the relaunch was really a quantum leap.”
The other jury members of the Q-Award also confirm the wow factor. “The relaunch attracted a lot of attention in the industry,” explains Roland Ehrler, managing director of SWA. For media institute director Marianne Läderach, the “great feel and innovative design” were particularly convincing, and René Grossenbacher, VR delegate from Publicom, is enthusiastic about the “innovative approaches, especially the cover picture”.
Before the relaunch, the magazine had been on the market for 46 years and, particularly in recent years, had to contend with falling advertising sales and decreasing reader interest. The main reasons for this were an outdated layout and too much focus on PR cooperation.
Baudokumentation.ch: The digital winner with a great user experience
The Q-Award Digital 2020 goes to Baudokumentation.ch. “A very nice user experience with beautiful pictures” or “good target group approach, a lot of utility, a lot of content” are some of the jury’s comments on the completely redesigned website last August.
Architects and planners have been using Swiss building documentation as a source of information since 1930. The initial product data sheets and a manufacturer’s catalog have now become a multimedia information platform with a beautiful, elegant design. Bauddokumentation.ch is a prime example of how complex information can be skillfully offered online, and for this it rightly won the Online Q-Award 2020, explains the VSM.
