“You will have very nice surprises in September because that’s it, it’s starting again! “It was in a Coliseum in Meaux full as an egg (at least 2,000 people were present for the wishes of the town hall) that the host, Jean-François Copé (LR), made the solemn and enthusiastic announcement. Les Muzik’elles, the essentially female music festival, is making a comeback for good, after disappearing from radar screens for eight years, due to a drop in the municipality’s budget. A prefiguration concert, a kind of life-size test, and called “On And On By Muzik’elles”, was held at the Tauziet stadium on September 24th. Three headliners are scheduled.
Should we still present -M-, alias Matthieu Chedid, the multi-instrumentalist, even if on stage he mainly plays the guitar, known for his hits “Machistador” (1999) or “Je dis aime” (2000)? Since his debut, he has racked up albums and successes. Son of the musician Louis Chedid (who himself had released the hit “As well be it” in 1981) and grandson of the poetess Andrée Chedid, -M- has lived in the north of Seine-et-Marne for several years as well as a large part of his family. Matthieu Chedid at the Muzik’elles, it will be a bit like the local stage. For this 2023 edition of the festival, he will come accompanied by guests whose names we do not yet know.
Carte blanche to -M-
For Pierre Corbel, the director of the culture, tourism, events, youth and sports department, for the city of Meaux and the urban community of the Pays de Meaux, “-M- was an artist to whom we wanted to offer carte blanche from before the end of the festival, in 2014. As soon as we knew that the festival was resuming, we got in touch with him. He agreed to postpone his tour to make his last date in Meaux. The carte blanche consists for the designated artist to invite other musicians on stage. “When they are male, they should only invite girls”, specifies Pierre Corbel.
Adé, country and co
Second headliner for the festival, the singer Adé. At 27, the former singer of the Thérapie Taxi group distills a pop mixed with electronics, folk and above all country. This last musical current is an assumed and claimed influence. She composes, writes and performs her songs. Released in 2022, his first album “And then? “. Before that, the talented musician wrote the texts of the title “Parc fermé” in duet with Benjamin Biolay. She is also present in the clip. Sweet music with sixties accents in the chorus. “She is part of the younger generation. She has her own paw. What we liked is that she is an author, composer and performer. We like to highlight feminine creation,” exclaims Pierre Corbel.
Nej’, “new R’nB sensation”
Last headliner at the Meldois festival: Nej’. The 29-year-old artist from Toulouse (Haute-Garonne), released her first album in February 2020, “Enchantée”. Pierre Corbel observes that Nej’ was still unknown a year ago. “We saw her explode in 2022. She’s the new R’nB sensation. It is very popular with a young audience. But that’s also the DNA of Muzik’elles: reaching a wide audience ranging from young people to parents. »
