Earthquake a magnitude (M) of 6.4 rocked the south side of the province Turki, Hatay. As a result of the strong earthquake, 3 people were reported killed and hundreds injured in Turkey and Syria.
As reported by AFP, Tuesday (21/2/2023), an earthquake occurred in the City of Defne at 20.04 local time. The earthquake was felt strongly by AFP teams in Antakya City and Adana City which are 200 kilometers (300 miles) to the North.
Turkish Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu said three people died as a result earthquake that strong. In addition, 213 were reportedly taken to hospital.
Later, in Syria, the White Helmets said more than 130 people were injured. In fact, some of the damaged buildings are now collapsing.
Turkey’s disaster management agency said on Twitter another magnitude 5.8 quake followed three minutes later after a M 6.4 quake. The epicenter was in Samandag district in Hatay.
The agency registered two more tremors of magnitude 5.2 about 20 minutes after the first. Images from the DHA news agency showed a hospital in Antakya being evacuated, while broadcaster NTV reported another hospital being evacuated in the town of Iskenderun.
For your information, according to AFAD, more than 6,000 aftershocks have been recorded since the M 7.8 earthquake hit Turkey and Syria on February 2, 2023. The M 7.8 earthquake has killed more than 41,000 people in the country.
