“Lyrid Meteor Shower 2023: Natural Phenomenon in Indonesia Sky”

“This meteor shower can be witnessed since April 22 at 22.30 in the northeast, culminates in the north at 04.00, and fades in the northwest as the sun rises,” said BRIN Space Research Center Researcher Andi Prince.

Furthermore, said Andi, the intensity in Indonesia at the time of the peak of the Lyrid meteor shower varied, namely between 13-16 meteors per hour.

This phenomenon occurs every year when Earth passes through the dust cloud left behind by a comet’s tail, according to Business Insider.

The dust cloud then falls into the atmosphere, burns up and looks like a shooting star. This year’s Lyrid meteor shower is also expected to be seen with the naked eye quite clearly, because the moon is dim or in the crescent phase.

The Lyrid meteor shower can be very intense, up to 100 per hour. This could happen during outburst conditions, which appeared in Virginia in 1803, Greece in 1922, Japan in 1945 and the United States in 1982, according to a NASA report.

However, it is difficult to predict if this outburst will occur or not.
