On November 10, the opening day of the 10th edition of the Equality and Diversity Fortnight, the Mably chapter house was packed. The party was there.

After listening to the interventions of Pierre Hurmic, mayor of Bordeaux and Jean-François Egron, vice-president of the Metropolis and mayor of Cenon, the very numerous and large audience, sensitive to the problems of exclusion and inequality, waited with looking forward to the exceptional lyrical concert, given by bass baritone Alexia Bobet.

From melodies to operatic arias, the emotion, tinged with a certain astonishment, was immediately seductive. When the astonishing lyrical singer sang her first tune, silence immediately reigned in the room. The first notes were a shock.

Endowed with a full and colorful voice, with multiple expressive facets, Alexia offered a bass baritone vocal range worthy of the pure Verdian tradition. His aria of Philip II from “Don Carlos” by Verdi took on an anthology character.

To close the concert, after a dozen pieces, the singer went down into the room to invite all the males to line up along the walls to sing in chorus the finale of Escamillo’s aria from “Carmen” from Bizet.

We must not forget the pianist Guillaume Flamen and the cellist Emmanuelle Faure who throughout the evening, solo or accompaniment, made the notes waltz brilliantly.

Closing the concert, Olivier Escots, deputy mayor of Bordeaux, in charge of the fight against discrimination, was surprised to hear the first bars of a well-known birthday tune to celebrate… his own.

Specified by the elected officials present, this Fortnight of Equality invites all citizens to continue to mobilize against all discrimination, placing emphasis this year on those observed in the world of sport and culture as well as those affecting young people and seniors.
