The mega project of the “Lyonnaise routes”, this network of cycle paths designed as a public transport network in the metropolis of Greater Lyon, continues this summer. After the commissioning of the first section of line 1 in July at the Quai Claude-Bernard (7th arrondissement), it is in the 6th that work is launched.
The Métropole is in the process of developing the portion at the level of the avenue de Grande-Bretagne between the Tête d’Or park and the Morand bridge. “It is the continuation of the development of line 1 of the Lyon routes”, explains Fabien Bagnon, vice-president of roads and active mobility at Greater Lyon.
This Lyon route must connect Saint-Fons in the south to Vaulx-en-Velin, passing through the center of Lyon along the Rhône, along the Tête d’Or park, the Doua university campus and cross the Jonage canal with a dedicated footbridge.
A new cycle path and more pedestrian spaces
Between the Tête d’Or park and the Morand bridge, there is already a cycle path but “it is a question of taking up certain parts and keeping others”, according to Fabien Bagnon. The work should make it possible to create a new cycle path 3 meters wide and to give pedestrians back the space where bicycles and passers-by mixed between the trees.
