The Metropolis of Lyon presented Tuesday, May 31 the development of line 2 of the Voies lyonnaises. The first section, which is the subject of consultation, crosses the east of the city and part of Villeurbanne from north to south. he goes upset the habits of many motorists.
Between now and 2026, the Voies Lyonnaises should make even more room for cyclists in the conurbation. Line 2 will connect Fontaines-sur-Saône to Saint-Priest crossing Villeurbanne, the 6th, 3rd, 7th and 8th arrondissement.
21,000 cyclists will leave the Vivier-Merle tunnel every day
It will therefore be necessary to make space in order to pass two bike lanes and to plant plants all along. For this, the 200 free parking spaces on the back alley of boulevard Stalingrad will disappear, as indicated News Lyon Tuesday, May 31. This passage which serves the entrance to the Parc de la Tête d’Or can only be taken on foot or by bike.
The other big change concerns Boulevard Vivier-Merle. “Lane 2 will use the Vivier-Merle tunnel instead of the left-hand traffic lane. Eventually, there will be as many cyclists as cars in the tunnel”, predicts the Metropolis of Lyon, which goes even further by giving these figures: 21,000 cyclists will leave the Vivier-Merle tunnel every day in 2030.
