Lyon. New anti-ecological front on Quai Gailleton –

By Marco Polisson

The brutal removal of 110 parking spaces on the central reservation of the North-South axis provoked the anger of residents who took action on Monday. A new episode of the beauf series #Lyon green.

The decision fell on Monday, June 14, 2021 without notice. The Green Metropolis has decided to set up a carpooling station on the central median of Quai Gailleton, between rue de Condé and the University Bridge. Local residents discovered the doldrums and the parking prohibition signs in the early morning hours.

110 parking spaces eliminated overnight

The affected residents do not intend to stand idly by when parking in their neighborhood is already complicated. By forming a collective, they hope to put pressure on the green elected representatives of Lyon and the Metropolis. Peter Oliver, the LR mayor of the district, also faced with a fait accompli, – as was the case in the 6th with the removal of two lanes of traffic course Vitton – immediately reacted on twitter (below).

The collective “Apaisons le quai Gailleton” led by Sophie Descour and Florence de Loitière denounces “a project launched without an impact study, in contempt of the inhabitants of this district, the absence of consultation and of alternative parking solutions for the residents.” “Especially families with several children who cannot do without cars.

While the launch of work on the Quai Gailleton carpooling station is scheduled for Monday, June 21, the ApaisonsLeQuaiGailleton collective, which has more than 400 members, calls on residents to come and demonstrate this Monday June 21 quai Gailleton near rue des Remparts d’Ainay de 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m.
