Hugo has seen his first patients at the Lyon Sud hospital since the end of December. This assisted surgery robot, developed by the American company Medtronic, has just obtained European approval; Lyon is one of its first deployments. His four articulated arms, his camera and his brain coupled with artificial intelligence allow him to intervene in gynecology, urology and general surgery. It completes the equipment of the robotic surgery center of the public establishment, which has also acquired two Da Vinci robots from the Californian Intuitive Surgical.

In the 1990s, a prostate operation required 21 days of hospitalization. “Today, thanks to laparoscopy assisted by robots, it is limited to one or two days”, compares Professor Alain Ruffion, head of the urology department, president of the medical commission of Lyon Sud and craftsman of the creation , in 2010, of a multidisciplinary center dedicated to robotic surgery.
