Around Lyon (Rhône), Décathlon now allows rent a bike, paddle board, kayak or camping gear for short periods, ranging from a single day to a month, depending on individual needs. The brand is experimenting this sports equipment rental service in the Lyon metropolis through five stores: Ecully, Beynost, Limonest, Bron, La Part-Dieu. There is therefore no need to invest in expensive equipment intended for occasional use.
Decathlon offers this new service in partnership with Lokki, a start-up created in Isère in 2019 by two young graduates from Grenoble École de Management, Benoît Prigent and Raphaël Masbou. “Consumer goods are discovering new services, and we are there to support them”, explains the latter.
Develop the rental
“There is a tendency to rent rather than buy. However, not all rental professionals have taken the digital turn. We are there to help them make this transition ”explains Raphaël Masbou about Lokki who, in addition to Décathlon, claims already more than 300 partner rental companies distributed throughout the territory but mainly concentrated in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region.
Lokki offers a solution to professionals to facilitate the administrative procedures surrounding the rental. For customers, this service makes it possible to do all the procedures online
If the experience conducted by Décathlon in Lyon proves to be conclusive, the partnership with Lokki could be required to develop throughout the territory. To date, the five partner stores carry out “about twenty rentals per week, and this figure is gradually increasing” confides the co-founder of Lokki, rather confident.
