This Tuesday morning, the police evicted a squat at 13 rue Neyret (1st arr.) in Lyon. 33 unaccompanied minors were evacuated.
Just ten days before the start of the winter break, on November 1, the squat at 13 rue Neyret, in the 1st arrondissement of Lyon, was evacuated this morning. The police arrived shortly after 6:30 a.m. to remove the 33 unaccompanied minors who were on the scene.
State services indicate that “among the 33 people evacuated, 5 illegal aliens were arrested.”
The place can be evicted since August 31
At the same time, the Croix-Rousse support/migrant collective published a press release this Tuesday to denounce this decision. “The expulsion of the squat at 13 rue Neyret just before the winter break, with no alternative housing solution, is dramatic”castigates the collective, before adding, “the Neyret squat constituted for citizens one of the main resources allowing them to shelter minors in appeal whose care was refused by the Metropolis.” Since its opening in March 2023, the squat would have provided shelter from “271 minors in appeal”also indicates the collective.
EXPULSION OF 13 RUE NEYRET IN PROGRESS
Arriving on the scene at 6:30 a.m. this morning, the police are in the process of evicting the 70 minors in appeal living in the squat at 13 rue Neyret, who have been evictable since August 31, with drones in support. 👇 pic.twitter.com/S00o640r8H— Collective Supports/Migrants Croix-Rousse (@SoutiensCroix) October 22, 2024
While the site has been evictable since August 31, the collective once again deplores the silence of the communities. “While the deadline before the expulsion requested by the Lasalle foundation has been known for months and the Croix-Rousse support/migrant collective has alerted the Prefecture, the Metropolis and the City of Lyon on numerous occasions about this deadline, these institutions have never responded or planned a solution to replace these 70 accommodation places, essential although still insufficient”he concludes.
If no information has yet been communicated for a possible rehousing solution, the Croix-Rousse support/migrant collective assures on its X account (ex-Twitter) that “rallies and actions will be announced throughout the day.”
