Lyon: 30 years in prison for a van driver who killed a police officer in 2020

Judged since Monday, the defendant denied any desire to kill. “The murderous intention was maintained, as long as it was admitted that the accused could keep hope, prove that he was able to think, to progress”commented his lawyer Julien Charles.

“He had these few words, saying ‘that’s it’. It’s a way to respect the court decision, try to think about it and listen to it”, confided the lawyer, remembering that he now had ten days to appeal if necessary. “We have condemned this man to be older than his age”he remarked.

On the night of the tragedy, the GAO police officer took part in an operation to arrest a team of criminals who had just stolen a load of detergent in Isère. On the outskirts of Lyon, the Volkswagen van carrying the stolen goods found itself blocked by two vehicles and attempted a maneuver to get out, hitting Franck Labois head-on, stopping on its way, gun in hand.
