Lyngen, Avalanche | Three died in landslides in Lyngen

A new landslide occurred in Lyngen on Thursday afternoon. Just before 15.30, the police report that three people have been found dead.

The landslide has occurred in Beritlia.

Ambulance helicopter from UNN is on its way. The police helicopter took off from Tromsø around 15.20.



Also on Wednesday, two people were taken by landslides in Lyngen. This happened further south, in Lyngsdalen. A group of seven people were in the mountains north of Furuflaten when several of them were taken by a landslide at an altitude of 1200 meters. Two of them had to be assisted to get out of the avalanche, but all escaped without physical injuries. This is stated in a report from Lyngen Red Cross.

Goalsevarri / Kavringtiden is a popular summit mountain that is reached from Lyngseidet. The peak is at 1289 meters above sea level.

On Tuesday, the avalanche service Regobs registered an observation that warns of the avalanche danger in Lyngen. The observation states:

Fresh snow and wind from the north increase the load on weak layers in sheltered areas, primarily in the southern sector. Natural flake landslides on layers of edge grain are possible and small natural loose snow landslides in many steep slopes are guaranteed / highly probable.
