Lyme disease vaccine would be on track

A second phase during a clinical trial is proving promising! Indeed, these tests are carried out by a French biotechnology company in order to find a vaccine against Lyme disease.

These results come from the company Valvena so the main job is to find vaccines for different diseases. Moreover, the company has been working for many years on a vaccine against Lyme disease. This is transmitted through a bite from an Ixodes tick which itself has been infected with Borellia. A red spot spreads to the area where the tick bitten. Other symptoms occur such as fever, muscle and joint pain, or even fatigue.

The French are not sufficiently sensitized against Lyme disease. According to Public Health France, 35% of the population is unaware of this infection. In France, 50,000 people are counted each year. Moreover, these people come when the disease has spread. According to doctors, patients arrive with muscle (or joint) pain. At the time of this writing, the only barriers against Lyme disease are preventative. We hope that the next phases of this possible vaccine are conclusive.

The testing phases

The company Valvena for its part published the results by‘A press release. In addition, these first results are carried out without aggravating side effects. They named this vaccine VLA15. These results are achieved by a very strict protocol. 572 European and American adults aged 18 to 65 volunteered to perform these tests. During this time, two doses were injected into the patients, a first of 135 µg (three injections) and a second of 180 µg (three injections). These doses were injected over a full month.

In order to protect against Lyme disease, this vaccine spreads antibodies throughout the body that neutralize the tick when it bites. Hoping that this vaccine will be marketed in the coming months or years. Lyme disease is fatal over time. Good news, isn’t it? What do you think of this vaccine?
