This is one of the prizes for young designers that can change the course of a career. For its eleventh edition, the LVMH Prize ceremony was held in the heart of the Fondation Louis Vuitton early this afternoon. A large-scale venue that lives up to the ambitions of the prize, if not the most important, at least one of the most prestigious for the fashion of tomorrow. Delphine Arnault, president and instigator of the prize since 2014 (the year the LVMH Prize was created), opened the ceremony with a few words of introduction, before handing the microphone to actress Ana de Armas, invited for the occasion to present the Savoir-Faire prize, a major new feature for 2024 and whose objective is to highlight “the importance of craftsmanship, innovation and sustainability”.
The first distinguished winner was Irishman Michael Stewart for his label Standing Ground. Winning the €200,000 Savoir-Faire prize, this former student of the Royal College of Art in London has been weaving elegant fashion since 2022, a sort of ideal evening wardrobe. Standing Ground’s signature style lies in the techniques of draping, sculpture and craftsmanship. “Thank you [au jury] to give recognition to my work. This award will allow me to move on to the next stage,” Michael Stewart said at the end of his speech.

Of the 2,500 applications from 80 countries received this year, one profile, already well-known at Paris Fashion Week, particularly stood out. This is the Dutchman Duran Lantink, honored with the Karl Lagerfeld Prize (and its 200,000 euros). Based between Paris and Amsterdam, Duran Lantink created his label in 2018 and quickly established himself as one of the designers to follow. His fashion, based on upcycling, develops collections with visually impressive creations that question the ordinary structure of clothing. It was Robert Pattinson, this year’s patron of the Karl Lagerfeld Prize, who welcomed Duran Lantink on stage: “I can’t wait to show you what I’m preparing in the coming weeks,” said the designer, who is on the official calendar of Paris Fashion Week Spring-Summer 2025 at the end of the month.
