LVM invites applications for the energy wood production tender

JSC “Latvijas valsts meži” (LVM) invites you to apply for the announced tender for the provision of energy wood and timber production services in 2022-2026, concluding the general agreement, according to the information released by LVM.

Entrepreneurs, farmers and builders who have at least two chainsaws/brushcutters and at least one forwarder or agricultural tractor equipped with a forestry trailer or manipulator, as well as a harvester or forwarder that can be equipped with a working head for the preparation of energy wood or at least one crawler excavator with a mass of more than seven tons.

Entrepreneurs who are already cooperation partners of LVM in soil preparation and forest infrastructure works are also invited to apply for the competition. For example, those service providers who use excavators to prepare the soil in the form of piles, installing rivet heads on the equipment, may be busy with the removal of vegetation during the period when the soil is not being prepared.

The production of energy wood and timber will be carried out by removing vegetation from drainage ditch tracks, road tracks, agricultural lands, clearing the undergrowth before restoration felling, as well as developing thin-dimension maintenance felling.

As Jānis Pētersons, LVM’s chip production manager, explains, LVM owns land that is sometimes occupied by unproductive stands and bushes. In order for LVM to grow high-quality forest stands in these areas, the vegetation must be removed. In turn, the harvested vegetation is used for energy production, contributing to the use of renewable resources. Often, the vegetation has reached dimensions from which the energy chips that are so important today can be obtained.

The general agreement foresees the selection of the pool of applicants, contracts are not immediately concluded.

First of all, applicants’ applications are evaluated, which must meet the minimum requirements. Before the conclusion of the contract, the participants of the general agreement will be sent an invitation in which LVM will describe the expected scope of work within the contract, location in the territory and specific requirements. After that, the compliance of the offers with the previously defined requirements will be evaluated and contracts will be concluded with the most economically advantageous offers.

The offer must be submitted electronically by August 16 at 2 p.m.

The sole owner of LVM is the state, while the share holder is the Ministry of Agriculture.
