San Pedro Sula, Honduras
End to the novel. The Marathon Sports Club made official this Wednesday the arrival of Emilio Izaguirre, thus being his brand new signing for the 2021 Clausura Tournament of the National League of Honduras.
The former world champion with Honduras in 2010 and 2014, reached an agreement and today signed a contract with Marathon, being the third incorporation of the greens since they previously signed Wilmer Crisanto and Argentine forward Kevin Hoyos.
“Milo” was presented by Orinson Amaya and Rolin Peña, president and secretary of the green club, at a hotel in San Pedro Sula. The player will wear number 7.
The 34-year-old left-hander reached an agreement with Motagua to terminate his contract that he had for two years after, to the surprises of many, it did not enter into the plans of strategist Diego Vázquez.
“For my part, put this project in God, may everything be a blessing for my new club, Marathon. I hope to be champion many times as I did at Celtic “, were Izaguirre’s first words in his presentation.
Outstanding career
To speak of Izaguirre is to refer to one of the best left-backs in Honduran soccer in recent years.
In Motagua he is considered by a sector of the fans as an idol. The footballer was champion with the Blues of the Uncaf Cup and won a Honduran National League title.
After his great performances with the capital club, he went abroad where he stood out at Celtic of Scotland. During eight seasons he won a total of 14 titles with the Scottish team.
He was also named the best player in the Scottish Premier League in 2011 and played several games in the Champions League in which he faced Lionel Messi’s Barcelona on some occasions.
He later went on to Al-Fayha FC of Saudi Arabia with whom he played a total of 24 games.
“Milo” returned to Motagua in August 2019 and unfortunately for his interests he could not win a championship.
Today Emilio Izaguirre will have a new opportunity to show his quality in the National League of Honduras and arrives at the Marathon to collaborate so that the green team continues to be the protagonist.
The first clash of the Sampedrano club in the Clausura 2021 will be on February 16 when it visits Honduras Progreso at the Humberto Micheletti stadium starting at 7:30 pm.
