The Bowers & Wilkins Px8 headphones promise a luxurious listening experience. But do these premium headphones live up to the hype? Our in-depth review explores the comfort, sound quality, noise cancellation, and overall value of this high-end offering.
Comfort and Design: A Luxurious Feel
The Px8 boasts a striking design. These over-ear headphones feature a 180-degree rotating earcup design, though regrettably, they don’t fold flat, making them slightly less convenient for travel. However, the build quality is undeniable, with a cast aluminum frame and luxurious Nappa leather.Despite weighing in at 320 grams, the weight distribution is well-balanced, resulting in comfortable extended listening sessions. The thick, wide headband padding further enhances comfort.
In our testing, the battery life significantly exceeded the manufacturerS claims, lasting an impressive 38 hours and 13 minutes on a single charge. This is a major plus for users who value extended playtime.
Sound Quality and Noise Cancellation: A Mixed Bag
The Px8 utilizes 40mm carbon transducers, delivering a harmonious sound profile.Bass is well-represented, mids are balanced, and vocals are reproduced effectively. The headphones support a range of Bluetooth codecs, including AAC, SBC, aptX, aptX HD, and aptX Adaptive, ensuring compatibility and high-quality audio across various devices. However, the active noise cancellation (ANC) falls short of the competition. While passive isolation is good thanks to the plush earcups, the added benefit of ANC is minimal.
A transparency mode is included, allowing ambient sound to pass through for situational awareness.
“The headset also comes with active noise reduction, but this is not were it excels. The Px8 does offer good passive isolation, thanks to the thickness of its ear cushions that surround the ear,but the difference between simple passive isolation and active noise reduction is quite minimal,” our testing revealed.
The Bowers & Wilkins Px8 headphones offer a premium listening experience with exceptional comfort and impressive battery life. The sound quality is excellent, but the underwhelming ANC performance is a notable drawback at this price point.Potential buyers should carefully weigh the pros and cons before making a purchase. Bowers & Wilkins Px8 Headphones: A Deeper Dive with Audio Expert elias Neumann
Bowers & Wilkins has always been known for it’s commitment to audiophile-grade sound. their Px8 headphones, while impressive, have sparked debate among audio enthusiasts. We sat down with Elias Neumann, a renowned audio engineer and reviewer, to get his expert take on these stylish and highly-priced headphones.
Elias, thanks for joining us. The Bowers & Wilkins Px8 headphones have garnered a lot of attention. What are your initial impressions?
It’s certainly a striking piece of hardware.Bowers & Wilkins always excels in design and build quality, and the Px8 is no exception. The materials are luxurious, the fit is cozy, and the overall aesthetic is undeniably premium.
Comfort is crucial for long listening sessions. How does the Px8 perform in that regard?
Very well, actually. The headband distribution is excellent, and the large earcups with Nappa leather cushioning provide a plush feel. even after extended use, I didn’t experience any discomfort.
Let’s talk about the sound. Bowers & Wilkins is synonymous with audio quality. Does the Px8 live up to that reputation?
In many respects, yes. The sound is well-balanced, with a natural tonal presentation. The bass is punchy without being overpowering, mids are clear and detailed, and the highs are crisp and extended. it’s a very pleasant audio signature that will appeal to a wide range of listeners
some reviewers have commented on the active noise cancellation being less effective compared to other flagship headphones. Do you share that sentiment?
I agree that the ANC performance is good, but not exceptional. It reduces ambient noise noticeably, but it’s not quite on the level of the leading ANC headphones from Bose or Sony. For exmaple, the low rumble of an airplane engine is noticeably attenuated, but higher-frequency sounds like conversations still bleed through.
Battery life is a crucial factor for wireless headphones. How does the Px8 fare in that department?
Battery life is excellent. Bowers & Wilkins claims 30 hours, but I consistently got around 38 hours with moderate volume levels. That’s impressive and should be sufficient for most users.
would you say the Bowers & Wilkins Px8 is a worthwhile investment for audiophiles and casual users alike?
It depends on your priorities. If sound quality is your primary concern, the Px8 delivers an immersive and enjoyable listening experience. The build quality and comfort are also top-notch. However, if you prioritize ANC performance above all else, there are better options available. The Px8 is a premium headphone, and the price reflects its luxurious features, but it’s not without its trade-offs.
