Although the reasons for selling a car may vary, buyers are advised to check the number of owners the car has had. Cars that frequently change owners can hide many serious technical problems. The automotive industry data company “carVertical” analyzed the history reports of cars created in Latvia to find out which models have the most owners.
The luxury car has had the largest number of owners
Among the used cars in Latvia, the Lexus IS model changes owners most often. The Lexus ISs tested on the carVertical platform have had four owners during their lifetime. In the list of the first five vehicles with the history of the richest owners, Mercedes-Benz can be seen in three full entries. There are 3.2 owners of GL class cars, S class – 3.2 and CLS class – 3.1. On the other hand, the BMW 7 series completes the top five with an average of 3.2 owners.
Luxury class cars are highly respected in Latvia. They are in high demand, and many owners trade in their vehicles for newer models from time to time.
Looking at car brands, Lexus takes first place – on average, Lexus models have had 3.2 owners, Subaru – 2.8, Mitsubishi – 2.7, MINI – 2.6, and Honda – 2.6.
“Older luxury cars are often attractive to younger drivers who still can’t afford them while these cars are new. Since many vehicles are often imported from Western countries, Latvians can get more value by buying an older luxury car than a newer car from the economy of the product. class machine,” explains Mats Buzelis, communications manager of “carVertical”.
Tesla has not been used for a long time
The study also showed how often one person owned a particular model before it was sold. On average, a Mercedes-Benz C-class car has been in the hands of one owner for 2.1 years. Audi A4, Mercedes-Benz S-Class, BMW 5-Series and Volvo V70 vehicles have also been owned by one owner for more than two years before being sold.
On the other hand, BMW X5 models change owners much more often – on average every 1.6 years. The list of less used vehicles is rounded off by the BMW 4 Series (1.6 years) and the Opel Insignia (1.7 years).
When researching different car brands, it can be concluded that Subaru vehicles are used for an average of 2.8 years. Kia (2.7 years), Hyundai (2.7 years), Volkswagen (2.7 years) and Škoda (2.6 years) are close behind in terms of usage.
Although Tesla cars are very popular, these electric cars are in the hands of one owner for only 1.2 years on average. This could indicate that many buyers have bought into the popularity of electric cars, but may not have fully appreciated the level of care involved. maintaining such vehicle. Renault is also among the cars whose owners change frequently – every 1.9 years. Similar data is also available for Seat cars, which are used for an average of two years.
“Electric cars still don’t offer the same utility as internal combustion engine vehicles. There are many drivers who could afford an electric car, but they don’t have their own charging station. Such customers try to stay with an electric car at the beginning, but you quickly realize that it is not very convenient,” says M. Buzelis.
Frequent changes in ownership can reveal hidden problems
If the car has often changed owners, this may indicate some problems. Even newer vehicles can have hidden faults that can cause sudden system malfunctions and lead to the need for expensive repairs. Therefore, car experts recommend checking the history of the vehicle, because some sellers tend to hide the real reason they are selling the car.
Although many motorists value cars that have only had one owner, they are not always in the best condition. It all depends on how the vehicle has been used and maintained.
For example, a company car may be more worn, poorly maintained, and with higher mileage – especially if it has been used for transportation or construction. Two identical cars manufactured in the same year can be in very different technical condition, so it is recommended to consult a professional mechanic before buying a vehicle.
