“Enjoy luxury at our five-star hotel in Central Park”, is the welcome given by the website of the Park Hyatt New York To anyone thinking of staying there. That was the hotel that the president chose Alberto Fernandez to spend two nights with his wife, fabiola yanezand his entourage, before traveling to Washington to meet with the president Joe Biden. There are two days of an agenda with almost no activities.
The Park Hyatt is in the heart of midtown Manhattan, on 57th Street, one block from Central Parkright in front of Carnegie Hall -one of the most emblematic concert halls in New York-, a ten minute walk from the Broadway theaters and five from the Fifth Avenuewhere are the stores of the main brands.
The suites cost from 3,500 dollars a night -more than 1,300,000 pesos, to the dollar card-. The lobby, on the first floor, has gleaming marble floors, large vases of cherry blossoms, and modern sculptures. In total, in the hotel there are more than 350 works of art.
For the guest who has time to rest, the Park Hyatt offers the experience of immersion in a saltwater pool “covered with a eucalyptus steam bath”, the serenity of the Nalai Spa -with three treatment rooms- and a gym open 7 24 hours of 171 square meters “with views of the Manhattan skyline.”
The hotel’s location has an additional advantage: it is two blocks from the Argentine consulate in New York. It is an area where luxurious hotels abound. Around the corner is the Ritz; about three blocks away, the Plaza.
It is not the first time that Alberto Fernández and his entourage have stayed at this hotel. They had already chosen it last September, when they traveled to the United Nations General Assembly meeting. But this time, the stopover in New York is just a bridge, organized at the last moment, between the leaders’ summit that took place in Santo Domingo and the official visit to Washington, which was confirmed by the United States government last week.
In the almost 48 hours that Fernández and his officials will spend in New York, the central activity will be a dinner, tonight, at the Council of the Americas.
The bilateral meeting with Biden will be this Wednesday at the White House. It was scheduled for July of last year, but it was postponed because the US president contracted Covid-19 and it seemed that it would no longer be done.
White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said in a statement released over the weekend that Biden and Fernandez “will discuss how the United States and Argentina can continue to partner to address global challenges and continue to advance in areas of national interest.” mutual, including critical minerals, climate change, space and technology.”
Both leaders will also speak about “economic cooperation, as well as their shared values of inclusion, democracy and protection of human rights,” added Biden’s spokeswoman.
Fernández is guaranteed, for now, that a photo will be taken in the Oval Office, something that Cristina Kirchner tried to achieve with Barack Obama when he was president and was unsuccessful.
