This offers unimagined luxury House in the Brooklyn district for its residents: all apartments open out on at least three sides. The entrance doors are accessed via open concrete walkways.

A feeling of living almost like in your own house and yet in community with others – that was the goal of the architects SO-IL and the start-up project developer Tankhouse for the new building at 450 Warren Street. Located on a corner lot in the former industrial district of Gowanus, the building comprises three commercial units on the ground floor and 18 condominiums – including two penthouses – on the four upper floors. The parking spaces are also located on the ground floor, making an expensive underground car park unnecessary.

Concrete walkways

The planning team created space for encounters on all floors, but above all on the first floor: Two green courtyards were created there on the roofs of the parking garage and the shop floor. The apartments are spread over three separate buildings with an access courtyard in between. On the meandering arcades made of exposed concrete, floor-to-ceiling cable nets serve as fall protection. There is also an elevator here, but above all the open staircases should invite you to walk through the floors.

Twisted brickwork

The street views of 450 Warren are also refreshingly complex. The numerous projections and recesses, indented loggias and the brickwork made of concrete blocks that are slightly twisted against each other prevent any monotony from arising despite the relatively uniform window sizes.
