Luton Town captain Tom Lockyer is in hospital undergoing tests and examinations, after suffering a heart attack on the field, during the Bournemouth match, in the English Football League.
Luton Town Club issued an official statement, saying, “Tom is still undergoing tests and examinations, and is awaiting the results before determining the next steps for treatment.”
The statement added, “We appreciate the fans’ concern for him, and the great media interest in the player’s condition, but we are unable to provide continuous updates about his condition, and we ask all media outlets to wait until any updates are issued through the club’s official channels in a timely manner.” The British news agency, PA Media, reported that the players of both teams left the field while the 29-year-old Welsh defender was treated, then returned to greet the fans after the Premier League announced the cancellation of the match after 65 minutes.
She indicated that Lockyer underwent heart surgery to treat defibrillation during June, after he collapsed during Luton’s victory over Confetti in the second division final match.
The Luton Town defender returned to action at the start of the new season, and played 15 matches in all competitions before Saturday’s match.
