On Friday, May 3, Luton hosted Everton in the opening match of the 36th round of the English Premier League. It would seem that it is far from the most interesting sign, but already in the first half the teams exchanged goals, and at the end of the meeting they arranged a real festival of spectacular moments.
The score 1:1 did not suit the hosts, who are desperately fighting for survival, so in the last minutes they made a real assault on the Everton goal. It all started with Luke Berry’s header, after which Jordan Pickford had to pull the ball out of the bottom corner!
Luton earned a corner, which even the goalkeeper ran to – that’s how much the victory was desired for the newcomers of the Premier League! The high pass went to the far corner of the goalkeeper, where the omnipresent Berry was perfectly positioned for a “bicycle” shot, but hit the goalkeeper… The expression on the face of the head coach of Luton, Robert Edwards, best describes the emotions of what he saw.
But that’s not all! The home side had another killer chance when Andrews Townsend curled the ball perfectly into the far corner, only to be blocked by the leg of Jarred Branthwaite! You have to see this parade of wasted opportunities with your own eyes.
After the match, Luton’s players could only bite their elbows in despair, because a victory would allow them to at least temporarily leave the relegation zone of the Premier League. Instead, the “hatters” have to hope that their main rival Nottingham Forest will drop points with the main losers of the season – Sheffield United.
