Vancouver – Lush Cosmetics announced Monday that it will be shutting down its Instagram, Facebook, TikTok and Snapchat accounts on Friday in an effort to address what it says are consumer mental health issues.

The company says its brand’s global presence on platforms will remain disabled until the platforms take action to provide a safer environment for users.

Lush says he is investing in new ways to connect with his customers and is still present on Twitter and YouTube for now.

The company claims to have tried this already in 2019 with its UK communication channels, but claims its resolve has been bolstered by recent reports.

Facebook whistleblower Frances Haugen said Facebook prioritizes engagement and user growth over online safety.

Documents gathered by the former Facebook IT engineer suggest the social media giant was aware of the damage its products were causing and has generally done little, or little, to alleviate it.
