Lupita: A Short Film Arising from Universidad Veracruzana’s Film Workshops Selected for Oro Negro Film Festival

The fictional short film “Lupita” has been selected to participate in the 8th edition of the Oro Negro Film Festival, which is taking place from June 21 to 25 in the south of the state. The film was created as a result of film workshops given by the Universidad Veracruzana (UV) in the second semester of 2022 to students, teachers, and graduates from various regions.

Directed by María Enid Cancino Rangel, “Lupita” tells the story of Guadalupe, a young woman who is overwhelmed by the demands of her relatives and has a strong desire to leave the city where she lives in search of better opportunities. The film has already received recognition, winning second place in the fiction category at the 2022 Orizaba International Film Festival.

In addition to being selected for the Oro Negro Film Festival, “Lupita” was also presented at the Volare International Festival and screened at the El Sótano Cultural venue in Burgos, Spain on June 20. The director, María Enid Cancino Rangel, expressed her pride in the creative process and the results achieved through organized teamwork. She thanked cinematographer Lucas James Moore and the actors for their professionalism, emphasizing the importance of good actors in bringing a story to life.

Anahí Lima Rodríguez, a student at the Faculty of Theater who plays the role of Guadalupe, shared her experience of being cast in the film. Initially auditioning for another character, it was decided during the process that she would star as Guadalupe. Lima Rodríguez found the psychological background of the character to be a challenge but felt a strong connection to it. She expressed her excitement about the script and her satisfaction with the film’s projection.

The film workshops provided by the UV in different regions were praised for their contribution to promoting culture and art. Initiatives like these not only train students in visual narratives but also generate interest in society for activities related to film and the arts.
