Lüneburg wants to bring an Advent atmosphere into the city

Lüneburg.
It is clear that Advent and Christmas will be very different this year than many years before. But is that why you want to cancel everything, turn off the lights and raise the sidewalks? That can’t be the solution either. Because not just the soul, too
Art and culture, trade and gastronomy
live from the fact that maybe a little something is possible, at a distance, corona-safe and compliant, of course. Behind this intention gather
Hanseatic City of Lüneburg, Lüneburg Marketing GmbH and Lüneburg City Management
who want to try to make the best of the situation together and work on different actions.

School classes and families wanted as decoration sponsors

In order to conjure up a festive atmosphere in the city and joy in the hearts, 200 additional, decorated and illuminated fir trees are to let the gables and alleys shine in Christmas splendor from the end of November. This has now been decided in the town hall together with Lüneburg Marketing GmbH (LMG) and Lüneburg City Management (LCM). For the LCM, Chairman Heiko Meyer explains: “We want to set up the trees, especially in the smaller streets of the city center, 2 to 2.50 meters high. Similar to what we know from Heiligengeiststrasse as a private campaign in previous years. “

The trees, financed by the Hanseatic city, will be erected at the end of November and will be illuminated by LEDs. The highlight: families, daycare and school groups as well as other interested parties can take on a kind of Christmas tree decoration sponsorship and decorate “their” tree nicely. A jury evaluates the results and awards prizes.

Mathias Schneider, LMG, is the contact person for the Schmück sponsorships: “We will be writing to daycare centers and schools in the next few days. If you don’t want to wait for it or want to take part as a family, please just contact us. We assign the trees and explain everything else. ”Citymanager Schneider can be reached via [email protected] and by phone on 04131/207 66 13.

Street music in the city center

Advent to join in – under this motto is also the idea of the Hanseatic city to enable people from the field of cabaret and street music on the Advent Saturdays in December not the big, but the small appearance for free and outside. The idea is for small performances that invite you to linger here and there for ten minutes. The artists should perform in pairs at most, want to offer instrumental music or other cabaret, preferably Christmas and ideally in a format that allows short breaks again and again. Because the performances should not lead to larger gatherings, nor will it be possible to sing or perform in groups. Exception: Larger, such as theater offers are also conceivable in the Rathausgarten.

The area of order of the city is currently looking for more places that are suitable for small appearances, because the narrow shopping streets are taboo. The city’s cultural department is happy to receive inquiries and suggestions from interested artists who can imagine contributing here, including specifying the desired Saturday, morning or afternoon. Important for interested parties to know: The fee that would otherwise be due is no longer applicable, as is the time limit. Those who spend four hours receive a small allowance for expenses and, of course, a hat can be set up as usual. If you are interested, contact [email protected] in the city’s cultural department.

For this, as in the end all offers in the city center, this Advent season means that every planning must always include several options and is subject to the proviso that in the end it will have to be completely re-planned or even overturned. Because compliance with health protection and the current corona rules have priority. But both administration and marketing and LCM do not want to be deprived of their confidence earlier than necessary that a little Advent and Christmas in the city center is still possible – as a positive signal for the people in the city and district, as well as in the interests of retailers and Restaurateurs and the jobs concerned.

Responsibility to the domestic economy

This is also underlined by Mayor Ulrich Mädge: “We have a responsibility to the local economy. We want to keep our city center alive and we have to look ahead constructively. ”The city and marketing departments are currently working on further incentives to visit the city center. During the week, current information from the federal and state governments for planning Christmas market offers is expected. Anyone who would like to submit further suggestions to the administration on the subject of Advent and Christmas time in the city center are welcome to contact the mayor’s advisor, e-mail: [email protected]
