Lunar Eclipse So The Earth’s Indicator Is Round

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia Vesak Day which occurred on Wednesday (26/5/2021) also saw a lunar eclipse. According to the Head of Lapan, Thomas Djamaluddin, this incident proves that the Earth is round.

Thomas said the lunar eclipse can learn the shape of the Earth is spherical, not flat.

“The shadow of the Earth that falls on the Moon begins the process, the eclipse process is partly curved. It shows that the Earth is round,” Thomas said as quoted from the Youtube channel Lapan RI, Wednesday (25/5/2021).

He said it was impossible for the Earth to be flat. If this fact is true, according to him the shape of the shadow is not clear.

“It is impossible for the shape to be flat, later the shadow on the moon will somehow be curved to show that the earth is round,” he explained.

Thomas explained that the lunar eclipse occurred starting at 16:46 WIB. Meanwhile, the peak of this incident occurred between 18:11 and 18:16 WIB. Meanwhile, the middle of the Earth’s shadow is at 18:18 WIB.

At the current lunar eclipse, a number of regions can be seen as the peak of the eclipse. Namely as in Manado, Parepare, and Kupang.

At the peak of the eclipse, the Moon looks reddish. Even so, the shape of the moon is not visible on its entire surface.

In live streaming, in some regions there is a difference in color. In Parepare it is red and Kupang is reddish black.

On the surface of the Moon, you can see that the left is a little brighter than the right. According to Thomas, this occurs because the edge of the Earth’s shadow is close to the left side of the Moon’s surface.

“The left is close to the edge of the Earth’s shadow. So let’s call it the most refraction of sunlight. So it is indeed brighter. Getting to the middle is getting redder and getting darker in the middle, because of the less refraction of the sun,” he explained.
