(Keystone-SDA) According to consistent media reports, Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva will not travel to the summit of the Brics group of states in Russia due to an injury. Lula suffered a cut to his head at home on Saturday, the news portal “G1” and CNN Brazil reported, citing a doctor’s letter distributed by the presidential office.
It says that after an examination, the doctors advised the 78-year-old to avoid long-haul flights. However, he can pursue his other activities. Lula will take part in the summit via video link, according to reports in a separate statement.
Kremlin boss Vladimir Putin will receive the other heads of state and government of the group from October 22nd to 24th in Kazan, Russia – the capital of the Russian republic of Tatarstan. Moscow is announcing the summit of the group led by Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa (Brics), which has now expanded to include Iran and the United Arab Emirates, among others, as a world political event.
