The Brazilian presidential candidate and former president (2003-2010) Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, 76, was infected with Covid-19 and suspended all his campaign activities, his press office reported this Sunday.
Lula is asymptomatic and tested positive for Covid-19 together with his wife, Rosángela Janja da Silvaas reported by the former president’s press team on social media.
“The former president is asymptomatic and Janja has mild symptoms. They will be in isolation with medical monitoring for the next few days,” reported the Twitter account of former President Lula.

Lula’s activities for this week are suspended after the positive test that was carried out at the Sirio Libanés Hospital in the city of Sao Paulo, the same medical center where the former president overcame throat cancer a decade ago.
Lula appears as the favorite to beat President Jair Bolsonaro by 21 points in the elections on October 2, according to the Datafolha pollster.
