Lukoil’s boss resigned, the company criticized the invasion of Ukraine

“Chairman and member of the board of Lukoil V. Alekperov announced the decision to resign,” the press release said. Lukoil is the second largest oil company in Russia after Rosneft.

Alekperov, 71, was placed on the sanctions list by Russian oligarchs last week.

Alekperov has a 8.5 percent stake in Lukoil, but is not the controlling shareholder, the company said in a statement. Alekperov has 3.12 percent voting rights. The remaining 5.43 percent is held through family trusts or mutual funds without voting rights, the company added.

The company said in early March that it was concerned about the “tragic events in Ukraine” and expressed its condolences to all those affected by the conflict. At the same time, he assured that he would do everything he could to continue his activities around the world in a stable way.

Last year, Lukoil increased its net profit to 773.4 billion rubles (approximately 215 billion CZK) from 15.2 billion rubles in the previous year. Higher oil and gas prices and a higher volume of the company’s production were behind the sharp increase in profits. The company increased sales by more than two-thirds to 9.4 trillion rubles.
