Luke Kennard never doubted his future in Memphis

It took longer than expected, but Luke Kennard is back in Memphis. The shooting guard saw the Grizzlies decline the team option they had on him, but that didn’t stop them from reaching an agreement a month later, when the sharpshooter signed a one-year, $11 million contract. Now, facing another year in the Tennessee organization, he says this was always his desire.

“There are a lot of different conversations that happen throughout that process. I told him (the general manager “Grizzlies forward Zach Kleiman wanted to be in Memphis. This is where I want to be. I’m excited about what they’ve built here over the last few years. I just wanted to be a small part of that,” he tells Damichael Cole of The Memphis Commercial Appeal.

Beyond the sporting aspect, Kennar was also motivated by his personal situation, since his family lives nearby and he recently had a child with his wife, so changing scenery at the present time was not his intention.

“The fact that my family can come and see me at any time is a big deal. Being closer to home is a big factor. I have the baby and my wife at home, and they love where we are and the city we live in. It’s been a great time so far. We’ve really enjoyed Memphis. We’re happy to be here for at least another year,” he says.
