THE TALENT TO KEEP AN EXTRA EYE ON
Luke Hughes (back)
Hughes, younger brother of Jersey forward Jack and Vancouver Canucks star back Quinn, could be something special. If nothing else, it’s enough to look at the genes. The 20-year-old was selected fourth in the 2021 NHL draft. Backen now begins his first full NHL season.
– I said three years ago that we have some promising youngsters. We have added a couple of men to our chains but now we are seeing our boys grow into men and that is exciting, says GM Fitzgerald.
The youngest Hughes brother got to dip his toes in the NHL last year when there were two games, in which he scored as many points (1+1). In New Jersey, they are hoping for more this year.
BIGGEST QUESTION MARK FOR DEVILS
Does the defense hold?
The Devils look somewhat thin at the back after the losses of Severson and Graves.
– Two of the league’s best backs have disappeared so it will definitely be different. It will be felt out there on the ice, but we still have some really good players on our team, defenseman Kevin Bahl told NHL.com/sv.
It remains to be seen whether that will be enough to improve on the impressive numbers from last year.
