On Wednesday Szumowski’s resignation was mentioned in TVN24 by the deputy prime minister and minister of development, Jadwiga Emiliewicz. She stated that “it was not a very big surprise”. – That it was yesterday [we wtorek – przyp. red.]and not today or in two weeks, here we can talk about a slight surprise – she added.

– This is not a decision good for the government, but if the minister made the decision that he wants to leave the government this year, it is the best moment – she assessed. – There is a plan in place to fight the pandemic ahead of its possible second impact. This is the time when if a new minister appears by the end of the week, as the prime minister announced, there will be time for him to be prepared to fight the pandemic before the fall wave of flu in the collision with COVID-19 – argued Emilewicz.

Emilewicz was also asked why Szumowski did not wait with this decision until the announced government reconstruction. – We do not know when the government will be reconstructed, at the moment the party leaders are on vacation. In fact, the second phase of serious political talks will take place in the first half of September, she said.

The deputy prime minister was also asked how many ministries in the new shape of the government will be allocated to representatives of PiS coalition partners. – Taking into account the political power of the coalition partners – and Solidarity Poland and the Agreement, maintaining two ministries for each of the coalition partners seems fully justified – she said.

– Just as it is difficult to imagine that in any reconstruction, the minister of justice is anyone other than Zbigniew Ziobro, it is also difficult for me to imagine that the ministry responsible for the economy section had someone other than the Agreement – she said. As she added, the fact that the coalition partners should have two ministries “is arithmetically justified”.

It is good for Jarosław Gowin to return to this government.
