Oleksandr Lukashenko spoke about the preparation of Belarus for war during a working trip to the city of Grodno near the border with Poland. it is said in a statement from his press service.
“We are preparing for war, I speak frankly about it. “If you want peace, prepare for war” – I did not come up with it. This is very correctly said,” Lukashenko said, adding that the country does not want war.
However, according to him, the necessary training of the relevant units continues in Belarus, various types of weapons and equipment are supplied to the troops.
At the same time, Lukashenko said that he “does not want someone else’s land” because, sooner or later, it will “turn into a disaster.”
Addressing the residents of Grodno, which is located on the western border of the country, Lukashenko said: “You are ours. We will not hand you over to anyone,” he complained that neighboring countries made it difficult for Belarusians to cross the border.
“Now they have closed themselves off from us with a fence. You see that it’s not my fault, it’s their policy,” Lukashenka was quoted as saying by his press service.
Earlier, the Ministry of Defense of Belarus announced the beginning of checking the combat readiness of units and military units in the country’s Armed Forces.

Oleksandr Lukashenko supported the Russian military invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022 and allowed the use of the territory, military infrastructure and airspace of Belarus for the invasion of the Russian army and shelling of Ukrainian cities, as a result of which tens of thousands of peaceful Ukrainians died.
In the first days of the full-scale war, the government of Ukraine decided to close all checkpoints on the border with Belarus. After the withdrawal of Russian troops from the Kyiv and Chernihiv regions, only one crossing point is operating between the countries – in the Volyn region. Through it, Ukrainians who were illegally deported to Russia return to Ukraine.
Because of Alexander Lukashenko’s support of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, international sanctions were imposed against Belarus.
Since the Russian invasion of Ukraine, military exercises have been held almost continuously on the territory of Belarus.
