Belarus has banned food imports from several Western countries since January 1 in response to new sanctions imposed on Minsk, accused of organizing a migration crisis at the EU’s borders, AFP reported.
According to a decree of the Belarusian government, a range of food products, including fruits, vegetables, meat and dairy products, coming from the EU, Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom and other European countries will be banned from import.
“These punitive measures were taken in light of the West’s constant attempts to exert collective illegal pressure through sanctions against our country,” the Belarusian government said in a statement.
The ban will not apply to certain products, such as baby food. Last week, the EU, the United States, Canada and Britain expanded sanctions against Belarus.
