Belarusian authoritarian leader Alexander Lukashenko has announced that he will no longer be the president of Belarus after the adoption of the new constitution.
Meeting with the doctors of Minsk Clinical Hospital,
Mr Lukashenko said: “I am not making any new constitution for myself. With the new constitution, I will no longer work with you as president. ”
He was quoted as saying by the Belarusian news agency BELTA.
Mr Lukashenko did not specify when this could happen, but emphasized the need to amend the new constitution and the president’s powers.
Previously, Lukashenko has repeatedly spoken about the possibility of changing the constitution. However, the opposition rejected his comments as an attempt to gain time and stay in power while suppressing protests against his government.

Following the August 9 presidential election, Alexander was declared the winner Lukashenko, Protests and strikes continue in Belarus. People believe that the election results are fake. They also oppose police violence by detaining protesters.
