Alexander Lukashenko For Belarus and its economy is not simply costly, but is like a natural disaster and catastrophe, and the sooner he leaves, the better for the country, says one of the leaders of the Belarusian opposition, Valery Cepkalo.
Cepkalo, a 55-year-old politician, is one of three major opposition candidates who were barred from running for president in the August elections. He has found a temporary home in Latvia. The first part of the interview can be read here.
Cepkalo believes that the economic situation will be what will beat Lukashenko. According to his estimates, the regime has reserves for another two months, but with the new year will have to repay a significant part of the national debt, which has no money and nowhere to get it.
“No investor, in his right mind, will invest money in Belarus in the current circumstances, no matter what the guarantees of the government and Lukashenko. There is no legitimate person now whose guarantees can be taken seriously. Even Russia no longer takes them seriously,” Cepkalo explains.
