Lukashenko has introduced criminal liability for calls for sanctions

According to the daily, criminal punishment is graduated – up to six years in prison if calls are addressed to ordinary citizens, up to ten years in the case of recourse to foreign states and international organizations, and up to 12 years in the event of calls being made by people in office.

Or if these calls led to a reduction in trade and the blacklisting of Belarusian companies.

The European Union, the United Kingdom, the United States and Canada imposed new sanctions on Belarus in early December for continuing human rights violations and triggering a migration crisis on the Polish-Lithuanian border.

The restrictions affected Belaruskali, which is the world’s leading producer of potash, Belavia airline and other companies. A number of Belarusians, including Lukashenko’s son, were also on the “black list”.

In retaliation, Minsk banned the import of certain products, including food, and expanded the list of persons banned from entering the federal states of Russia and Belarus. The measure will take effect on January 1, 2022, Kommersant recalled.
