Last Thursday, the FC veteran celebrated his big farewell to Cologne. The left-footer played in front of 50,000 spectators for the last time in the RheinEnergieStadion, and was supported by several world champions (including Manuel Neuer, Christoph Kramer, Per Mertesacker, Roman Weidenfeller) and his teammates Gornik Zabrze.
Numerous fans of the Polish club traveled to the cathedral city to cheer on their club’s top star. A supporter (32) who was traveling with him was stabbed in the city center before kick-off.

The victim was fighting for his life and had to undergo emergency surgery. But he was able to survive the knife attack.
As a photo now shows, Podolski then visited the fan in the clinic. Included: a signed Cologne jersey with his name and number ten on the back.
The fan was with a group on Hohe Straße towards the cathedral to join the planned march to the stadium.

The perpetrator has now been identified by the police. It is said to be a 17-year-old youth with a Moroccan background who is registered at a facility for underage unaccompanied refugees in Düsseldorf.
According to the police spokesman, he was not found there. As the “Express” reports, the perpetrator is said to have already been known to the police. He had previously shoplifted with someone involved (also 17 years old).
While the person involved was arrested shortly after the knife attack, the search for the perpetrator is still ongoing.
